History of Mount Gede Pangrango National Park as bellow

Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park is one of the oldest national parks in Indonesia along with Komodo National Park, Gunung Leuser National Park, Ujung Kulon National Park and Baluran National Park.

The history of this national park is also quite long and has its own story that is believed by the surrounding community. The name is taken from the names of two mountains that are located side by side, namely Mount Gede and Mount Pangrango.

This area has also been known by the public for a long time. This is known through ancient texts that tell about the legends and fairy tales of these two mountains in the land of Sunda. One of them is contained in Bujangga Malik's travel script.

When the Dutch colonized Indonesia, this area was used as plantations and agriculture. One of the plants developed here is Japanese tea, then followed by assam tea on the slopes of the two mountains.

From 1819 to 1952, several climbers managed to conquer Mount Gede. The first climber was C. G. C. Reinwardt, then followed by other climbers and finally C. G. G. J. Van Steenis who finally made the book The Mountain Flora of Java in 1972.

It was founded on April 11, 1852, by Johannes Ellias Teijsmann, a curator of the Bogor Botanical Gardens at the time, under the name Bergtuin te Tjibodas (Park of the Cibodas Mountains). Initially intended as a place to acclimatize plant species from abroad that have high importance and economic value, one of which is the Quinine Tree (Cinchona calisaya). Then it developed into part of the Bogor Botanical Gardens under the name Cibodas Botanical Garden Branch. Starting in 2003 the status of Cibodas Botanical Gardens became more independent.
