The definition of tourist, among various experts or international bodies, there is still no uniform understanding. Differences in understanding or limitations are caused by differences in educational background or expertise, differences in interests and differences in views of the experts or bodies. Both regarding the limits of international tourists and domestic tourists.

Types and Kinds of Traveler
With the interaction approach, Cohen (1972) classifies tourists into: basic level of recognition of the area to be visited, as well as the level of organization. This traveler is divided into four, namely, such as:
1. Drifter, namely tourists who want to visit an area that has never been visited he knows, and travels in small numbers.
2. Explorer, namely tourists who travel by arranging their trips alone, and don't want to follow the usual tourist path but looking for something out of the ordinary. Tourists like this are willing to take advantage of the facilities with local standards and the level of interaction with local communities is also high.
3. Individual mass tourists, namely tourists who convey their travel knowledge to travel agents, and visit famous tourist destinations.
4. Organized mass tourists, i.e. tourists who only want to visit the destination famous tourism, with facilities like those found on the premises where he lives, with his journey always guided by a tour guide.
